About Us

Mycelial Fruits was inspired by the love for fungi of owner and head laboratory technician Jason Van.
Jason has lived in the Blue Ridge mountain area of North Carolina for over 15 years. He did most of his university studies of fungi in this bioregion which is only rivaled by the temperate rainforests of the northwest in its diversity of fungi. Years of studying through academia and forays in the woods and natural desire to harness these organisms prompted the evolution of the spawn laboratory

Starting as a hobby and a homemade laminar flow hood to what is now a state of the art cleanroom designed for creating pure strain spawn.
The obvious need for a local mushroom product in the southeastern United States and the desire to help the small farmer sustain a living gave way to the business model that is being employed with Mycelial Fruits, LLC. It is one that puts family and community in every aspect of the community. Like the mycelium of fungi, Mycelial Fruits hopes to be a connective tissue between individuals of the local community.
